Dear ExpressJet Customer Service:

On January 2, 2006, my wife and I flew ExpressJet doing business as Continental Airlines, on flight 1772 from Leon, Mexico to Houston, Texas.  During the flight, we were offered a Turkey Breast Sandwich (see photo below) for our in flight snack. My wife and I prefer not to eat beef, so we were pleased to see that the snack met our dietary requirements.

  Wrapped Sandwich

Imagine our horror, when we unwrapped one of the Turkey Breast sandwiches to see a reddish, mottled slab of proteineous material bearing no resemblance to any commercial poultry or beef product.

  Unwrapped Sandwich

In the event that Continental or ExpressJet staff is unfamiliar with the appearance of Turkey Breast meat, it is whitish in color.

Of the snack trays returned in my line of sight, most, if not all, were returned with sandwiches that had been barely touched.   I question whether anyone working at Continental Airlines or ExpressJet would ingest anything resembling what we faced on January 2nd of this year.

If a decision is made to continue serving these sandwiches of questionable origin, please label them as to their actual content – your passengers will be appreciative in being able to make an informed decision on whether to ingest or pass on the sandwich option.   It would also be helpful if Continental and/or ExpressJet provided signage suggesting that passengers obtain sandwiches and snacks from services adjacent to your gates if there are no improvements to your in-fight service.

Sincerely,

Mr. Milo
